The Adirondack Council
Transit ad, 1999

Despite Congress's 1990 Clean Air Act amendments to reduce acid rain, the problem has grown worse and more widespread. Lakes, streams, fish, and entire forests are dying. Fine particles in the air make people sick and drinking water is being poisoned. A recent study mandated by Congress shows that the current program will never stop the damage. This bus shelter poster placed in Washington, D.C., and a New York Times ad are parts of a larger campaign to push for further cuts in sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions.
