Food First
Human Rights Campaign

Print ad, 1998

The Institute for Food and Development Policy (Food First) studied the root causes of hunger worldwide and found that the same income gaps between rich and poor which breed malnutrition overseas are operating right here at home. While the mass media celebrate prosperity, Food First uncovered ominous signs that America's transfer of wealth to a narrow elite has made hunger a systemic problem for those born into poverty in the richest nation on Earth. Ads spotlighted Congressional hearings, and argued that the U.S. should live up the Universal Declaration of Human Rights—including the minimal right to food.
